Rules of stay

A stay in MCBiE KUMAK rooms is tantamount to acceptance of the following regulations.

  1. The Center is not a hotel. You need to take care of cleanliness yourselves during stay. Please do not wear shoes inside the building, and we sweep up the sand if needed (brooms or brushes can be found in the kitchens or on the mezzanine). You are personally responsible for the condition of the rooms, and the instructors are supposed to check the rooms before departure.
  2. We do waste segregation (bins are located in the kitchens and on the mezzanine). Please do not throw waste (especially bottles) into small bins in bathrooms (mainly intended for hygiene products). All big garbage should be removed from rooms to larger bins in common areas. In the case of large groups,  full bags of separated garbage should be placed in external containers, if possible.
  3. Whenever possible, turn off the lights in common spaces.
  4. The building is quite new, it is constantly working – if something is not working (flush, light, door handle) – please report it to the instructors or the Centre employees.
  5. Serious faults (e.g. a cracked pipe and water leaking) should be reported regardless of the time of day, even in the middle of the night.
  6. The beds have quite narrow boards, all cracked boards should be reported.
  7. Please don’t move the beds (they scratch the floor when you pull them).
  8. Don’t stick anything on the beds: in particular chewing gum, stickers from apples, tomatoes, bananas, etc.
  9. If there are animals in the room – unused (uncovered) duvets and pillows should be removed from the room (even to the windowsill in the corridor)!
  10. Please do not open the windows in the rooms if there is no mosquito net. The windows have a lock in the handle, if it is pressed – the window cannot be opened and a key is required. We do not open the windows in the winter.
  11. If the window falls off its hinge (between the open and tilt modes), you should fold down the protruding plate (+/- at the height of the handle), set the handle in a horizontal position and close the window. If necessary, ask the Centre’s employees for help.
  12. Do not stretch strings between wall lamps or curtain rods and do not hang laundry, jackets, etc. on them (they break from the weight!). To hang clothes, use hangers on the wall and in the wardrobe, and to dry them – a clothes dryer (available in the common area, or from the Centre’s employees).
  13. Do not hoard toilet paper in the bathrooms. The single rolls of paper laid out in the common areas are to replenish any shortages (and this does not mean that this is all the toilet paper we have left – every day one of the employees will report when there is a shortage)
  14. The doors leading to the staircase are fire-resistant and heavy – do not run down the stairs, opening them with full force, because they can hit another person painfully.
  15. A night-time silence applies from 10:00 p.m.
  16. Do not wash shoes in showers!
  17. If the water does not drain well – the drain is clogged (usually with hair). You should pry up the metal strip and clean the strainer, or ask the Center staff for help.
  18. If water leaks into the bathroom or room while taking a shower – wipe it off.
  19. Don’t throw paper towels, hygiene products, etc. into the trash cans and absolutely do not flush them down the toilet.
  20. The building is a low-temperature building – after 11:00 p.m. the water may be colder.
  21. Do not wash bathroom mats yourselves! If necessary, ask the Center staff to replace them.

  22. There is a dishwasher in the lower kitchen and you should use it. However, someone has to start it when it is full and unload it when washing is finished.
  23. Do not wash pans in the dishwasher.
  24. Before putting dishes (other than pans) in the dishwasher, you should throw away food leftovers into the organic waste (or mixed waste).
  25. There are no food grinders in the sinks, so food leftovers thrown there cause the sinks to clog. So do not throw food leftovers into the sinks.
  26. When using the microwave, cover the food so that it does not splatter all over the middle of the device.
  27. We treat used paper towels as mixed waste (not organic).
  28. The cookers downstairs are induction – they require appropriate pots. Pots should not be moved between kitchens (the kitchen upstairs has a regular ceramic hob). If the cooker displays a strange message (e.g. flashing F), most likely a cookware that is not suitable for an induction cooker was used (food will not be heated).
  29. If a pot is burnt (it happens) and in your opinion it cannot be cleaned – this should be reported to the Centre’s staff and not thrown in the bin.
  30. Cutlery (i.e. spoons, teaspoons, forks, knives) that has not been washed in the dishwasher properly should be washed by hand or put back in the dishwasher. Don’t throw them in the trash!
  31. We boil only water in electric kettles and nothing else.
  32. Tap water goes through a purification system and is safe to drink.
  33. Food put in the freezer should be labelled with the name, surname and room number (preferably also the date).
  34. Do not lie open drinks (especially juices or milk in cartons) on the shelves in the fridge because they usually leak and flood the other shelves.
  35. If there are unlabeled products in the freezer (e.g. bread), you can use them.
  36. Before leaving, you should clear out the fridges and put the products you leave for the next groups out of the fridge on the table or clearly label them as available for use.

  37. Smoking is strictly prohibited inside the building! If someone needs, there is an ashtray in the corner in front of the main entrance. The smoking ban also applies to e-cigarettes!
  38. If you create a “pet jar” in another place – throw it away before leaving.
  39. Smoking on the terrace is prohibited!
  40. There is a dog (her name is Tesla) living in the Center – she is large, please absolutely do not allow her to jump on while playing (you should turn your back and walk away); also don’t raise your arms above her head as this encourages her to jump.
  41. You absolutely should not feed her!

Field trips:

  1. In the summer season, when going out into the field, you should take drinking water and a hat with you!
  2. There is Sosnowski’s hogweed in the area – you must not touch it and its clusters should be avoided.
  3. After returning from the area, you should check for ticks (currently, the recommendation also applies to trips in autumn and during warm winters!)
  4. The Center has a dryer for wet shoes – if necessary, you can use it (please ask the instructors or Center employees for access)

Before leaving:

  1. Please remove the used pillowcases from the bed linen and take them to the dirty linen trolley placed near the stairs in the stairwell.
  2. Check whether there are any personal items left in the wardrobes and shelves (including in the bathroom).
  3. Check the contacts to see if there are any chargers left in them.
  4. Please don’t leave dishes in the rooms – they all have to go back to the kitchen. Similarly, if chairs from common areas were brought into the room, they should be returned.
  5. Please check the refrigerators – see point 36.
  6. Please garbage from the bins in the building to outdoor bins.
  7. Please leave the key in the room door.
